Czech health authorities launch kidney screening and advance cancer research
The Czech Ministry of Health is implementing a new preventive screening system for kidney function. Under new methodological guidelines, individuals over the age of 50 will undergo automatic kidney function testing during their biennial preventive check-ups. General practitioners will monitor protein levels in urine and blood filtration rates to detect chronic kidney disease (CKD) early, as the condition often presents no symptoms in its initial stages.
In parallel, medical research continues to seek breakthroughs in pancreatic cancer diagnostics. While former Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek manages advanced stages of the disease, doctors are highlighting ongoing studies into lipid spectrum analysis and liquid biopsies. Researchers are working toward a ‘holy grail’—a blood test capable of detecting tumors through biomarkers. In the United States, multi-cancer detection tests are currently under development to identify signs of multiple cancer types simultaneously through blood samples.
