Czech health insurers introduce new preventive care subsidies

Czech health insurance companies and the Ministry of Health are introducing various financial incentives and reforms to promote preventive care and support specific patient needs.

Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna (VZP) is expanding its prevention fund, offering up to 5,000 CZK for psychosocial support, including psychological therapy for individuals aged seven and older. Additionally, VZP is launching a program to provide up to 140,000 CZK in grants to patient organizations for specific projects such as education and rehabilitation, though these funds cannot be used for general operating costs.

On a legislative level, the Ministry of Health is planning reforms to the public health insurance system, which is expected to manage over 605 billion CZK next year. A key proposal includes direct financial rewards of 500 to 1,500 CZK for patients who participate in regular preventive check-ups and screening programs. These changes, aimed at addressing an aging population and improving early disease detection, are expected to be proposed to the government in April 2027, with implementation targeted for 2028.
