Czech healthcare officials propose preventive care bonuses
Czech healthcare authorities and insurers are introducing new initiatives focused on prevention and patient support. The General Health Insurance Company (VZP) is launching a program to distribute up to 10 million CZK to patient organizations. This funding will support activities such as education, rehabilitation, and assistance for caregivers and those with chronic illnesses.
Additionally, government officials have discussed plans to incentivize preventive care. A proposed legislative amendment could introduce financial bonuses, ranging from approximately 500 to 1,500 CZK, for citizens who participate in regular check-ups and oncological screenings. This move aims to increase participation rates, which currently remain low for certain screenings.
Insurance executives have also emphasized the need for a systemic shift in healthcare financing. They advocate moving from a performance-based model that rewards medical procedures to a value-based model that rewards successful patient outcomes and the prevention of chronic diseases.
