Czech historians and intellectuals discuss political transitions

Recent interviews and publications provide new perspectives on Czech historical figures and the country's transition to democracy.

Writer and publisher Jiří Padevět, known for his work on modern Czech history and the Nazi occupation, discussed his personal interests in fashion, punk, and travel. Padevět, who has served as the director of Academia publishing, is also currently a candidate for the Senate.

In a separate discussion regarding the book ‘Disidenti u moci. Česká cesta ke svobodě a demokracii’ (Dissidents in Power: The Czech Path to Freedom and Democracy), philosopher and diplomat Martin Palouš reflected on the pivotal events of 1989. Palouš provided insights into the Velvet Revolution, the role of Václav Havel, and the political dynamics involving figures like Václav Klaus and Ladislav Adamec during the collapse of communism.
