Czech historic buildings face demolition and delisting battles

In the village of Bílovice, a deteriorating barn was ordered demolished after a neighbour complained that a weakened wall threatened his property. Local priest František Šary confirmed the demolition permit, while former owner Martin Horák argued the structure should be preserved as part of the town’s historic fabric.

Separately, heritage authorities, including the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), have opposed the removal of a castle in Dobříčany from the official list of protected monuments, seeking to keep the site under preservation status.

Both incidents highlight ongoing disputes in the Czech Republic over the fate of historic buildings and the balance between safety, development, and cultural heritage preservation.
