Czech historic houses renovated with modern design and heritage care

Architectural firms have completed extensive restorations of two historic Czech houses, blending historic fabric with contemporary interiors. In the Vysočina region, Plus One Architects renovated a 19th‑century manor begun in the 1820s, preserving the stone wall and wooden doors while adding a dark‑toned upper floor with massive spruce timber and subdued lighting to create a private retreat for the owners and their guests. The project, finished after a 2020 interior renovation of the ground floor, respected the building’s original materials and employed local craftsmen for precise structural modifications.

In the historic town of Český Krumlov, developer Ultra Premium Apartments worked with architect Marek Sodomka to transform a dilapidated 16th‑century structure. Over three years the team overcame missing floors, unsuitable stair access and strict heritage‑preservation rules, installing new windows, a bar‑style stone countertop, and a river‑view pavilion. Despite setbacks with authorities over window styles and roofing, the renovation linked old and new elements, adding modern comfort while retaining the building’s character.
