Czech historic sites Dobříš orange house and Prague Royal Summerhouse undergo costly restorations

The 18th‑century orange house at Dobříš Castle has been fully restored, reviving its unique illusion-painted façade and historic French garden. The project, costing about 98.6 million CZK and largely funded by EU regional funds, earned the Patrimonium for futuro award from the National Heritage Institute. Národní památkový ústav director Naďa Goryczková praised the owners’ dedication, noting the “significant financial resources” spent on the garden and the orange house.

Meanwhile, preparatory work has begun on the Royal Summerhouse at Prague Castle, a national cultural monument slated for a roughly 100 million CZK renovation expected to finish by spring 2028. The restoration will address structural issues, replace windows and doors, and refurbish interior elements such as the vaulted ceiling, historic chandeliers and original Renaissance stucco. The work is being carried out by contractor Konsit under a contract awarded at a lower‑than‑expected price.

Both projects underscore the Czech Republic’s emphasis on preserving its architectural heritage through substantial public and private investment.
