Czech historical landmarks and unique regional structures highlighted
Historical and architectural landmarks in the Czech Republic are being highlighted through their unique origins and legacies. In South Bohemia, the ancient pilgrimage route to Kájov, once a major Marian site, is traced through remnants of the past. While many of the original stone stations erected in the 17th century have disappeared due to 20th-century village displacements, traces like the stone arched bridge over the Polečnice river and mysterious wayside shrines remain.
In the Chrastava region, a unique wooden transbordér—a type of gondola bridge—celebrates 16 years of operation. Designed by architect Martin Rajniš, the device was created as a creative response to the devastating floods of August 2010, which destroyed the existing footbridge connecting the Kolonka settlement to the Machnín railway stop. Unlike traditional bridges, this structure allows passengers to move a suspended cabin across the Lužická Nisa river using a rope.
