Czech historical landmarks undergo scrutiny and restoration

Historical landmarks in the Czech Republic are undergoing scrutiny and restoration. In Jihlava, the Church of the Holy Spirit, built in 1572, stands on the site of a former cemetery established in 1559. Historical records indicate that the city faced plague outbreaks ten times over a century, necessitating the rapid creation of this burial ground in what are now Smetanovy sady.

In Karviná, the St. Peter of Alcantara Church, known as the Crooked Church, has undergone significant transformations due to coal mining. The structure has tilted approximately seven degrees and subsided by 37 meters. Recent restoration efforts have returned the church to its 18th-century appearance, featuring grey-white facades and red clay tiles, moving away from previous modern materials used during 20th-century repairs.
