Czech historical mysteries and regional traditions
The historical mystery of the forged manuscripts remains a significant topic in Czech history. In 1817, Václav Hanka discovered several parchment sheets containing poems in Old Czech, which were later joined by the Zelená Hora manuscript. These findings, which included tales of heroes like Záboj and Slavoj, were embraced by many national revivalists as proof of a sophisticated ancient Czech culture. However, scholars like Josef Dobrovský immediately suspected they were forgeries, leading to long-standing suspicions regarding Hanka and Josef Linda.
In Kamenický Šenov, the region's glassmaking tradition continues to be a point of local pride. The local Glass Museum houses unique artifacts, such as a glass chair crafted for an Indian maharajah. The town also features historical landmarks like Panská skála and maintains its heritage through the Palme glassmaking trail and museum trains that run on preserved tracks.
