Czech holidaymakers bring home‑packed meals on vacations

A survey commissioned by supermarket chain BILLA and conducted by Ipsos found that 49% of Czech respondents take food supplies from home when traveling for summer holidays or cottage stays. About 10% pack enough provisions for the entire trip, another portion carries food for the first few days, while roughly a third purchase meals locally. The most cited typical holiday food is a fried schnitzel with bread and pickles, followed by grilled sausages, pâtés and durable salami. "The survey shows that travelers increasingly look for speed and practicality, wanting to enjoy the outdoors while quickly replenishing energy," said Dana Bratánková of BILLA.

These habits reflect a broader preference for familiar Czech snacks, such as coffee and beer, that many take abroad to avoid missing home flavours.
