Czech hospital reports surge in child injuries over summer holidays

During the summer months, Czech pediatric services have observed a rise in child injuries as youngsters spend more time outdoors. The most frequent accidents involve falls from bicycles, electric scooters and trampolines, according to Dr. Jiří Žurek, head of the pediatric department at Kyjov Hospital.

Additional injuries are reported from ball games, playgrounds and swimming, with serious cases including jumps into unknown‑depth water, burns and alcohol or drug intoxication among teenagers. Dr. Žurek advises immediate immobilisation of suspected fractures, prompt medical care for head injuries, cooling burns with water, and calling emergency services (155) for severe incidents. He stresses the importance of preventive supervision by adults during the holiday period.
