Czech patient from Uganda moved to Prague's Bulovka over suspected Ebola

A woman who had been on a two‑week tourist trip in Uganda returned to the Czech Republic on 29 July. After developing a fever she contacted the infectious‑disease clinic at Hradec Králové University Hospital, which arranged her transfer on Saturday afternoon to the specialised infectious‑diseases unit of Bulovka University Hospital in Prague. The patient was transported in a sealed biobox with the assistance of the fire‑rescue service.

The Ministry of Health said the probability of a confirmed dangerous infection – such as Ebola, Marburg or other haemorrhagic fevers – was very low and that the public faced no risk. Spokesperson Naďa Chattová and health minister Adam Vojtěch reiterated that all precautions were being followed. Samples were sent to the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin for comprehensive testing. The institute later reported that no high‑risk pathogen, including Ebola, was detected, and the patient remains under observation while final diagnostics are completed.

The case illustrates the Czech health system’s preparedness for potential imported infections and the coordination between hospitals, emergency services and public‑health authorities.
