Czech households lose over 1.3 bn CZK yearly from mis‑set electricity tariffs

An analysis of 1,132 Czech residential electricity meters shows that about 65 % of the 6.5 million households using the standard single‑tariff rates D01d and D02d have their distribution tariff set disadvantageously. The mis‑set tariffs cause households to overpay by an estimated 1.3 billion Czech crowns (CZK) each year. If the tariffs were correctly adjusted, the average household could save roughly 728 CZK annually, with some saving several thousand crowns.

The study, conducted by the consultancy bezDodavatele and based on data from the Energy Regulatory Office (ERÚ), identified the greatest saving potential in Prague, where 68 % of examined customers would benefit. Similar opportunities exist in other distribution zones, such as PREdistribuce, EG D, and ČEZ Distribuce, where savings range from 46 % to 51 % of households. Libor Holub, executive director of bezDodavatele, emphasized that the savings can be achieved without changing suppliers or making investments—simply by correcting the tariff setting.
