Czech ice hockey Extraliga season begins with upsets and promotions

The new season of the Czech ice hockey Extraliga has commenced for both men and women. In the women's league, Hradec Králové secured a 1-0 victory over Slavia Praha B thanks to a goal by Eliška Ostatnická, while a derby between Praga and Bohemians ended in a 1-1 draw.

The men's Extraliga saw a major upset as Rakovník defeated the defending champions, Slavia Praha, in Eden. Other notable results included a dominant 5-1 win for Hostivař against Kadani and a 3-3 draw between President and Bohemians.

In Brno, WHC Valkyries Brno is entering a historic season following their promotion from the 1. liga. The club is debuting a new logo and will compete in three different leagues: the women's Extraliga, the 1. liga, and the U16 Extraliga. The organization aims to build a long-term development system for young players while managing the increased financial demands of top-tier competition.
