Czech infrastructure faces rest area shortages amid regional tourism options

The Czech Republic is facing significant infrastructure challenges regarding highway rest areas. According to Radek Mátl of the Road and Motorway Directorate, there is currently a deficit of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 parking and overnight spaces for trucks, buses, and caravans. While the country currently has about 150 rest areas, plans are in place to expand to 200 within five years and reach 6,852 spaces by 2031. Critical shortages are noted near major cities like Prague and Brno, as well as along the heavily congested D1 motorway. Construction is often hindered by land availability and local opposition due to concerns over noise and crime.

In contrast to domestic infrastructure concerns, the Kristall Therme Trimini Kochel am See offers a recreational alternative located just across the German border. Situated on the shores of Lake Kochelsee in the Bavarian Alps, the thermal complex features salt pools, saunas, and family-friendly zones with toboggans. The facility is noted for its views of the Herzogstand massif and provides both quiet wellness areas and active zones for families.
