Czech inspectors recall baby porridge due to carcinogenic toxin

The State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of a Nature's Promise BIO rice porridge with strawberry and raspberry from sale after discovering dangerous levels of a carcinogenic toxin. An inspection at an Albert supermarket in Brno revealed that the product contained seven times the maximum permitted amount of aflatoxin B1, a mycotoxin produced by mold that is classified as a carcinogen.

The affected product is identified as Nature's Promise BIO Rice Porridge with strawberry and raspberry, batch LOT 50426, with a minimum shelf life of July 31, 2027. The porridge is intended for toddlers aged 12 months and older. The supplier of the product is the Prague-based company King Food Bohemia.

Following laboratory confirmation, the National Institute of Public Health assessed the product and confirmed it is harmful to health. The SZPI has initiated administrative proceedings to issue a fine to the retailer.
