Czech intelligence chief warns Russia could target a NATO member

General Michal Koudelka, head of the Czech counter‑intelligence service (BIS), warned that Russia may consider an attack on a NATO state, citing the Baltic countries as a possible target. He said the Kremlin does not currently have sufficient resources to launch an operation on the scale of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, but any attempt would test the alliance’s rapid and unified response.

Koudelka highlighted recent Russian bombings of Ukrainian cities as evidence of the threat to civilians and noted that Russian disinformation and pro‑Russian agents have limited impact in the Czech Republic. He also warned that broader security risks include the conflict in the Middle East and rising anti‑Israeli protests and pro‑Palestinian activism in Europe and the United States, which he linked to a recent arson of a production hall in Pardubice. He cautioned that unchecked, such unrest could evolve into left‑wing terrorist groups similar to those active in Western Europe in the 1970s and 1980s.

The general called for unequivocal NATO unity and decisive defence measures to deter any Russian aggression.
