Czech Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc pursues legislative reforms
Czech Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc is pursuing a series of legislative reforms and active interventions in judicial decisions. Tejc has expressed a commitment to holding ministry officials accountable and has proposed the establishment of a General Inspectorate of Justice to oversee prosecutors, a move that has sparked debate regarding the independence of the prosecution service.
In addition to oversight proposals, the Minister is pushing for stricter penalties regarding animal cruelty, aggressive and intoxicated driving, and the non-payment of child support. His office has also prepared legislation concerning child custody to prioritize the safety of the child. Tejc has actively challenged court rulings he deems unjust, filing 23 complaints for violations of the law, with the Supreme Court ruling in his favor in 14 instances.
