Czech Justice Minister Tejc announces judicial reforms
Czech Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc has unveiled a series of reforms aimed at increasing judicial efficiency and integrating artificial intelligence into the legal system. A key component of the plan involves merging district courts to ensure a fairer distribution of caseloads. The first stage of this restructuring is scheduled to begin in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava in January 2028.
To modernize the judiciary, Tejc plans to establish a working group to implement AI tools, emphasizing that the state must avoid dependency on a single technology provider. He also intends to create new positions for highly paid senior assistants to support judges in their decision-making processes.
Additionally, the Minister proposed a return to standardized forms for certain legal filings to improve organization and clarity. He also noted plans to develop new methodologies for court experts and suggested that future judges and prosecutors should primarily be recruited from within the existing judicial ranks.
