Czech juvenile sentenced to 9.5 years for two murders
A 16-year-old male, Matěj T., has been sentenced to 9.5 years in prison for two brutal murders, two robberies, and rioting. The attacks occurred in Uničov and Zábřeh, where the suspect allegedly targeted victims, including a 71-year-old man, with extreme violence.
While the sentence is near the maximum possible for a minor, the defendant has not entered prison. Instead, he is being held at a reformatory and children's home in Boletice nad Labem. This follows his release from custody prior to the verdict, a move that has sparked a legal dispute.
The Regional Court in Ostrava asserts that the prosecutor failed to file a timely motion to extend custody. However, Regional State Prosecutor Libor Malý maintains that the release was lawful and is currently investigating the procedural handling of the case by both the prosecutor and the judge.
