Prague Stock Exchange hits record high as PX index climbs

The Prague Stock Exchange reached a new record, with the PX index climbing 0.94% to 2816.09 points. Key drivers included gains in banking stocks such as Komerční banka, which rose 2.52%, and Erste Bank, alongside energy company ČEZ.

In the United States, markets reacted to unexpectedly strong labor data. Non-farm payrolls (NFP) showed 162,000 new jobs, significantly exceeding the 53,000 expected by analysts. This strength has increased expectations that the Federal Reserve may maintain a restrictive monetary policy.

In the Czech Republic, electricity spot prices rose sharply in August to 138.21 EUR/MWh, the highest this year. This spike was driven by a significant drop in nuclear power production, which was partially offset by increased output from brown coal and gas sources.

The Czech koruna showed mixed performance, remaining stable against the euro while fluctuating against the US dollar amid shifting market sentiments and upcoming macroeconomic data releases.
