Czech libraries expand services with multimedia and new media options

Public libraries in the Czech Republic are expanding their service offerings through new technology and diverse media formats.

The Pardubice Regional Library is launching a new multimedia department designed to foster creativity across generations. The facility will allow visitors to engage in sound work, music composition, photography, and social media content creation. In addition to its traditional music collection, the library will provide access to the NAXOS database and the DRAMOX online theater platform. The department aims to provide professional guidance for users through a team of music and film production experts.

In Zlín, the local library is introducing several new services, including the ability to borrow from a collection of over 3,000 vinyl records. The library has also implemented a self-service high-quality scanner with OCR technology, allowing users to create searchable digital copies of printed documents. Furthermore, registered readers can now have books, magazines, or maps delivered to their homes or pickup points via courier services for a fee.
