Czech medical support: Leukemia crowdfunding success and palliative care expansion
In the Czech Republic, community support and specialized medical teams are providing critical assistance to patients facing severe illnesses.
A crowdfunding campaign on the Donio platform successfully raised over 270,000 CZK for twelve-year-old Štěpán, who is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The surge in donations occurred in the final days of the collection, providing essential financial relief for his family as he undergoes treatment for the life-threatening blood cancer.
Separately, the palliative care team at Písek Hospital has been providing multidisciplinary support to seriously ill patients and their families for over a year. The twelve-member team offers medical, psychological, social, and spiritual assistance to adults and children. Supported by a grant from the Vlčková Family Foundation, the team collaborates with the Athelas mobile hospice to ensure continuous care for patients transitioning from hospital to home environments.
