Czech Republic wage gap and new salary calculator

The gender pay gap in the Czech Republic remains a significant issue, with Eurostat reporting a gap of 18.5%, the second highest in the European Union. Discussions regarding this disparity highlight how women often earn less than men for the same work, partly due to factors such as parental leave and career interruptions.

To assist workers in negotiating better pay, a new fair wage calculator has been launched via the Rovnodmena.cz website. Developed by the Ministry, the tool uses real monitoring data rather than estimates to provide salary insights based on age, gender, profession, qualification, region, and company size. For example, data shows a female supermarket worker in the Ostrava region earns an average of 31,900 CZK, while her male counterpart earns 39,590 CZK.

Regarding broader wage trends, the minimum wage is set to increase from 22,400 CZK to 24,900 CZK in January. The average wage in the first half of the year was 50,650 CZK, with the Ministry of Finance predicting an increase to 55,627 CZK next year. Additionally, members of security forces are slated to receive a 2,400 CZK increase in their tariffs.
