Czech Ministry of Culture announces free entry to state galleries and museums
The Czech Ministry of Culture has announced that state-run galleries and museums will offer free admission to their permanent exhibitions on the first Sunday of every month, starting September 6. This initiative, announced by Minister of Culture Oto Klempíř, is scheduled to run through the end of the year, with plans for the program to continue through 2027.
Participating institutions include several sites under the National Gallery Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Olomouc Museum of Art, the National Museum, and the Moravian Museum. Other included sites are the Silesian Museum, the State Museum of Glass and Jewelry in Jablonec nad Nisou, the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, the National Museum in Nature, and the Romani Culture Museum.
In addition to the monthly gallery program, free entry will be available at over 100 state-managed castles and chateaux on August 30 and September 27. Minister Klempíř stated that while government programs originally focused on free access for seniors, children, and people with disabilities, this new measure expands free entry to the general public to make culture accessible to a wider audience.
