Czech Ministry of Culture reviews major festival partnerships
The Czech Ministry of Culture is reviewing its partnerships and cooperation agreements with major cultural institutions to align them with the government’s cultural policy for 2026–2029. The review aims to redefine the scope, purpose, and expected results of these partnerships, including how those results are assessed.
Key organizations under review include the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Prague Spring music festival. Regarding Karlovy Vary, a spokeswoman noted that ministry support accounts for no more than 20 percent of the festival’s total budget and expressed confidence in meeting new requirements. For Prague Spring, negotiations are focused on expanding access to its cultural programs, educational activities, and support for young talent.
Other institutions subject to review include Smetana’s Litomyšl, Janáček Brno, the Zlín Film Festival, and the Thálie theater awards. This move follows recent criticisms regarding funding and consultation, as some cultural organizations have reported reductions in state support for various programs and festivals.
