Czech Ministry of Culture unveils State Cultural Policy 2026‑2030

The Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic has released a draft of the State Cultural Policy for 2026‑2030. The document, signed by ministry spokesperson Barbora Šťastná, was posted on the website of the Czech Chamber of Commerce for public comment until 4 August. Critics from the cultural sector, including the Association of Professional Theatres, argue that the draft replaces the previous policy without a clear implementation plan, measurable indicators, or assigned responsibilities. They also note that the policy was prepared in secret, contrary to earlier statements that no new policy was being planned, and that much of its content mirrors the earlier 2025‑2030 policy.

The draft is expected to shape funding and working conditions for more than 220 000 cultural workers and influence the allocation of billions of crowns over the next five years. The ministry has been urged to apologise for the process and to withdraw the document until a transparent consultation can be conducted.
