Czech Ministry of Education secures 292.1 billion CZK budget for 2027

The Czech Ministry of Education has secured a proposed budget of 292.1 billion CZK for 2027, including European funds. This figure represents a 16.1 billion CZK increase in the national portion of the budget compared to the previous year. Education Minister Robert Plaga stated that this amount serves as the “lower limit of satisfaction” required to implement changes from the Strategy 2030+ plan.

A key component of the budget is a planned 6% increase in salaries for teachers and other pedagogical staff, which Finance Minister Alena Schillerová noted would amount to an average increase of approximately 3,600 CZK. Additionally, the budget includes 600 million CZK for union schools and 2 billion CZK for private and religious schools.

Despite the increase, some analysts remain critical. Karel Gargulák from PAQ Research suggested that 302 billion CZK would be necessary to keep pace with economic growth and adequately fund universities. Similarly, economist Daniel Münch from the IDEA Institute argued that even higher figures would be needed to move beyond merely maintaining current low levels of support.
