Czech Ministry of Health secures 6,000 tamoxifen packages for breast‑cancer patients
The Czech Ministry of Health announced that nearly 6,000 packages of tamoxifen, a key drug for breast‑cancer treatment, are being delivered to pharmacies. The shipment is expected to provide a two‑month course for about 1,250 patients and to raise national supplies above the usual weekly consumption.
Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch said, “We have done everything to make treatment available as soon as possible,” while Tomáš Boráň, director of the State Institute for Control of Medicinal Products, added that further deliveries will continue in the coming weeks. The ministry has also introduced emergency measures, allowing the use of unregistered tamoxifen products approved in other EU states and permitting repackaging of existing stock to match prescribed treatment durations. The shortage, which began last year and left only a few dozen packages on hand, is being addressed through intensive negotiations with manufacturers and European partners.
