Czech Ministry of the Environment submits nature restoration plan
The Czech Ministry of the Environment has submitted its National Nature Restoration Plan to the commentary phase. The strategic document, which exceeds 260 pages, focuses on protecting biodiversity, restoring landscape water regimes, and increasing resilience against climate extremes such as droughts and floods.
Environmental experts, including representatives from the Green Movement, have criticized the proposal for being too general. They argue that the document lacks specific, measurable goals and time-bound commitments necessary for effective nature restoration. Critics suggest the plan may fail to meet the requirements set by the European Commission.
Minister Igor Červený has defended the delay in submitting the plan to the EU, stating it was a management decision to ensure financial negotiations in Brussels are aligned with the proposed objectives. However, opponents argue that the standard procedure requires submitting proposals first to secure corresponding funding. The plan emphasizes water retention in the landscape as a primary focus.
