Czech Ministry of Transport issues guidance on verifying foreign traffic fines

The Czech Ministry of Transport has issued guidance on how to distinguish legitimate foreign traffic fines from fraudulent requests. Because there is no unified European system for verifying penalty notices, motorists are advised to carefully check for specific identifiers in any communication.

Authentic notices should include the identification of the relevant authority with contact details, the location, date, and time of the offense, the vehicle's registration number, a description of the act, payment instructions, and information regarding the right to appeal or file objections. If legitimacy cannot be verified, citizens are encouraged to contact the issuing authority directly or reach out to the relevant country's embassy.
