Czech motorists and shoppers flock to Poland for cheaper fuel and groceries

Czech drivers took advantage of lower fuel prices in Zabelkowo, Poland, where LPG cost 17.20 CZK per litre compared with 22.30 CZK in Ostrava, and gasoline was around 40.67 CZK per litre versus about 43.41 CZK at home. The price gap prompted a weekend shopping trip to the Polish market, where consumers bought pickles, new potatoes, butter, cheese and other fresh produce. Ten kilograms of pickles cost roughly 360 CZK, five kilograms of potatoes 60 CZK, butter 25 CZK per kilogram, and a pack of 50 toilet‑paper rolls was priced at 200 CZK. Participants described the trip as a practical way to offset the impact of Czech inflation and fuel price caps, filling their cars with fuel and the trunks with discounted groceries before returning home.
