Czech MP Miroslav Ševčík faces scrutiny for insults toward colleague
Miroslav Ševčík, a Member of Parliament for the SPD party, is facing criticism following an incident in the Chamber of Deputies where he shouted insults at colleague Michaela Šebelová of the STAN movement. During a session, Ševčík reportedly shouted about menopause while Šebelová was requesting a break in proceedings.
Šebelová has requested a formal apology, and the case is set to be reviewed by the Mandate and Immunity Committee. If disciplinary misconduct is found, Ševčík may be required to issue a public apology to the Chamber. While Ševčík claimed his remarks were not directed specifically at Šebelová, he has faced repeated complaints from various political factions regarding inappropriate behavior and disruptions during parliamentary sessions.
Political reporters note that while such outbursts occur, female MPs—who currently hold a record number of seats in the Chamber—are frequently the targets of such mockery and insults.
