Czech municipalities announce new sports and heritage projects
Several Czech municipalities are advancing significant local infrastructure and heritage projects.
In Bučovice, officials are planning a new sports hall with an estimated cost of approximately 139 million CZK. The facility is intended to address the inadequate height and spectator capacity of the current hall, which serves local volleyball players. The new building is designed to accommodate various ball sports, including futsal and basketball, and will feature 305 spectator seats and nine wheelchair spaces. Beyond athletics, the hall is expected to serve community purposes, such as hosting school social events. The city intends to apply for subsidies from the National Sports Agency, with construction projected for 2027 and 2028.
In Kolín, the city is preparing a project to restore Jewish houses on Na Hradbách street, with estimated costs of 98 million CZK. The project aims to connect the reconstructed buildings with a neighboring synagogue and make them accessible to the public. The former rabbinical house contains three preserved mikvahs (ritual baths), and the planned exhibitions will focus on Jewish traditions and rituals. The city is currently seeking funding, including potential support from Norwegian funds, to support the protection and development of this cultural heritage.
