Czech municipalities initiate urban infrastructure and climate adaptation projects

Municipalities in the Czech Republic are moving forward with significant infrastructure and urban revitalization projects.

In Uherské Hradiště, the Štěpnice housing estate will undergo a modernization project costing over 90 million CZK. Starting in mid-September, the initiative aims to improve climate resilience by managing rainwater more effectively and mitigating heat. The project includes renewing roads, sidewalks, and parking areas, as well as planting over 30 trees and 150 square meters of shrubs. New features will include water elements with six jets and drinking fountains to create better microclimates and relaxation spaces.

Separately, plans are being developed for the gradual restoration of the Severní terasy (Northern Terraces). Following technical surveys, officials determined that repairs can be conducted in stages rather than waiting for a full revitalization of the surrounding Žižkovovy sady area. Initial focus will be placed on the sewage system, with estimated costs for these specific repairs totaling nearly 2.9 million CZK. Surveys by the Czech Geological Service confirmed that the primary issues are structural and technical rather than slope instability.
