Czech municipalities prepare for upcoming municipal elections

Municipal elections in the Czech Republic are approaching, with local political landscapes shifting in towns like Studénka and Rožnov pod Radhoštěm.

In Studénka, the upcoming elections feature a historically low number of female candidates. Only four political entities are competing for seats in the city council, following the withdrawal of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) due to low membership. No new parties have emerged on the local scene, though the left and Christian Democrats are running under modified names. In the previous election, the independent movement ‘Studeňáci pro Studénku’ led the results, forming a coalition with ANO 2011 and KDU-ČSL.

In Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the ANO 2011 movement aims to regain a position in the city leadership. Although ANO was the strongest group in the last election with 24.92 percent of the vote, they were excluded from the governing coalition, which was formed by the Independent Rožnováci, KDU-ČSL, and ODS. Current Mayor Jan Kučera of the Independent Rožnováci is defending his post. The election cycle includes key deadlines in August 2026 for candidate registration, with voting scheduled for October 9 and 10, 2026.
