Czech municipalities undertake pond and wetland restoration projects

Various municipalities in the Czech Republic are undertaking projects to restore and revitalize local ponds to improve water management and landscape resilience.

In Písek, the reconstruction of the Pikhart and Němeček ponds in the Písecké hory region has been completed. The project involved desilting, building new dams, overflows, and outlets, as well as creating a new connection between the water bodies to manage high water levels. These efforts aim to support the local microclimate and provide water sources for fire prevention during droughts.

In Lázně Bohdaneč, work is set to begin in October to restore the Horní and Dolní Truhličky ponds, which are remnants of a historical pond system. The project, costing over five million CZK and supported by European and state subsidies, focuses on repairing dams, removing invasive vegetation, and restoring surrounding wetlands. The initiative is supported by the Pestré Polabí association to return the area to its natural ecological function.
