Czech municipalities upgrade pedestrian crosswalk lighting

Municipalities in the Czech Republic are advancing infrastructure projects to improve pedestrian safety through enhanced crosswalk lighting.

In Bohumín, the city is completing a stage of lighting upgrades in several streets, including Čs. armády, Bezručova, and Ostravská. The project utilizes modern LED technology to provide high-contrast illumination that improves visibility for drivers without causing glare. Additionally, a new illuminated crosswalk will be installed this autumn near the ironworks in Revoluční street to assist employees.

In Sokolov, the city is entering the final stage of a long-term safety initiative. Following recommendations from the Traffic Inspectorate, the municipality is installing lighting at six remaining locations, including near the municipal office and a polyclinic. This final phase is expected to cost approximately 1 million CZK and should be completed by the end of October, fulfilling a plan to secure 16 previously identified high-risk crossings.
