Czech museums host exhibitions on religious relics and sacred art
Museums in the Czech Republic are hosting exhibitions focused on religious relics and sacred craftsmanship. In Znojmo, the Minorite Monastery is presenting the ‘Corpora sanctorum: Holy Bodies’ exhibition. This display features reliquaries from the South Moravian Museum and various church collections, highlighting the history of saints connected to the city, such as Saint Olymp and Saint Nicholas.
In Turnov, the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise is exhibiting a silver reliquary of Saint Wenceslas. Created by goldsmith Jiří Urban in collaboration with sculptor Petr Vogel, the over 70-centimeter-tall herm is decorated with gemstones including jasper, lapis lazuli, and agate, as well as Czech garnets. Following the exhibition, the reliquary containing a piece of the saint's remains will be permanently installed on the main altar of the basilica in Stará Boleslav.
