Czech museums launch new exhibitions on regional history and folk heritage

The Moravian Museum has launched a new exhibition titled ‘From Wallpapers to Stories,’ which maps the evolution of museum curation in Moravia and Silesia between 1990 and 2020. Based on a three-year research project involving 41 institutions, the exhibition explores how museums transitioned from handling ideological legacies following the 1989 revolution to addressing previously neglected historical topics, such as the First Republic, religious history, and minority narratives.

In a separate regional development, the Museum of Mladá Boleslav has opened a new permanent exhibition at Mladá Boleslav Castle focused on rural life from the 1770s to the mid-20th century. The installation, which cost over 3.3 million CZK, utilizes interactive elements and models to depict local traditions. A central feature of the exhibit is a unique collection of over 400 embroidered folk caps, with 70 currently on display, showcasing the region's ethnographic heritage.
