Czech National Bank issues commemorative 5,000 CZK banknote

The Czech National Bank (ČNB) has released a special commemorative 5,000 CZK banknote to mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Bank of Czechoslovakia. The limited edition consists of 200,000 pieces and features a unique silver metallic hologram with nano-effects, the anniversary logo designed by Jan Solpera, portraits of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and a QR code.

Large crowds of collectors and citizens formed long queues overnight and in the early morning hours at ČNB branches in Prague, Brno, Hradec Králové, and Ostrava to secure the notes. Some enthusiasts brought chairs, blankets, and even improvised shelters to wait for the branches to open.

The banknote remains legal tender with the same dimensions and technical parameters as the standard 2023 series 5,000 CZK note. It can be obtained through an exchange for domestic banknotes of equal value, with a limit of three commemorative notes per person. The exchange process continues until stocks are exhausted. Additionally, a limited run of 30,000 protective commemorative sleeves is available for purchase.
