Czech National Heritage Institute Sets Free Admission Days for State Monuments
The National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) announced two free‑entry days for most state‑owned castles, châteaux, monasteries and other heritage sites on Sunday 30 August and Sunday 27 September 2026. Visitors must obtain a free ticket in advance through an online reservation system because of limited capacity. Exceptions include the Invalidovna in Prague, which is under extensive renovation, and the Raduň castle, which will open only in September due to filming.
Separately, Czech families have voiced concerns over the high cost of admission to many state monuments. Typical entry fees start at 350 CZK per person, with family visits to sites such as Hluboká Castle reaching 1 380 CZK. Similar prices are reported for Konopiště Castle and other attractions, prompting calls for more affordable access to cultural heritage.
Oldřich Pešek, deputy for the management of heritage objects at NPÚ, emphasized the aim of the free‑entry days to let people enjoy the sites while minimizing operational complications.
