Czech officials engage in NATO and EU meetings in Brussels

Czech Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna attended a series of NATO meetings in Brussels, focusing on preparations for the July summit in Ankara, enhancing Europe’s contribution to collective defence, modernising military capabilities and reaffirming support for Ukraine. He highlighted the growing willingness of European NATO members to increase defence spending, stating, "Posun v rámci evropských členských států NATO směrem k výdajům na obranu a budování vojenských schopností je skutečně značný."

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš participated in European Council talks in Brussels, where leaders discussed the EU’s long‑term budget (2028‑2034), energy prices, migration policy and the continuation of sanctions on Russia. Babiš urged a revision of the EU emissions‑trading system, arguing, "Nejrychlejší způsob, jak pomoci nejen českému, ale i evropskému průmyslu, je změna systému emisních povolenek ETS," and noted the expected €55 billion annual cost to the Czech industry. The EU Commission is set to propose the ETS revision by mid‑July 2026.
