Czech orchestras Janáčková and South Bohemian unveil 2026‑27 concert programmes

The Janáčková Philharmonic Ostrava (JFO) will present a July programme that pairs Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony. The concerts will open on 16 July in Opava’s Saint Wenceslas Church and will be repeated at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw a few days later, marking the orchestra’s return to the venue after 33 years. Daniel Raiskin conducts, with Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng as soloist. After the Dutch dates, JFO will close its season on 25 July at the Štěrkovna Open Music festival.

The Jihočeská Philharmonic announced its 46th season, opening on 24 September with “Tajemství vodníka,” a programme that links Vítězslav Novák’s suite with Fibich’s melodrama. The season will feature works by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Smetana, performances by notable Czech artists such as Martin Myšička and mezzo‑soprano Ester Pavlů, and guest appearances by international musicians including accordionist Richard Galliano. Director Alena Hron will hand over her baton at the season’s “Píseň, čarodějka” concert, concluding her three‑year tenure.
