Czech orchestras prepare for new concert seasons

Major Czech orchestras are preparing to launch their upcoming concert seasons. The Czech Philharmonic will begin its 131st season at the Rudolfinum from September 1 to 3. Under the direction of chief conductor Semjon Byčkov, the program features Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto and Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony. Violinist Karen Gomyo will perform as the soloist, stepping in for Janine Jansen.

Meanwhile, the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) is marking the start of its 92nd season with a traditional open-air concert in Valdštejnská zahrada, featuring works by Dvořák and various film scores. The orchestra’s formal season opening will take place on October 7 at the Municipal House, conducted by Tomáš Netopil, with programs by Beethoven and Brahms. The upcoming season will also include a guest appearance by the Dresden Philharmonic.
