Czech Parliament President demands more toilet paper on national trains
Czech Parliament President Tomio Okamura has escalated a dispute regarding the lack of toilet paper on Czech national railway trains, particularly in long-distance services. Following numerous citizen complaints, Okamura criticized the situation as a 'complete disgrace' and has called on Transport Minister Ivan Bednarik to implement improvements.
Okamura has also threatened consequences for Michal Krapinec, the head of the state railway Ceske drahy (CD). While the Parliament President emphasized passenger welfare, the opposition Democratic Civic Party (ODS) criticized the focus on the matter, suggesting more pressing issues require attention.
A spokesperson for Ceske drahy stated that the company consumes approximately three million rolls of toilet paper annually and denied that there is a systematic problem or a significant increase in passenger complaints. The company noted that while hygiene items are regularly checked, they may occasionally run out on individual trains.
