Czech police intervene in fraud, robbery and homicide cases

Police in the Czech Republic arrested a Ukrainian national and a 27‑year‑old man in Brod after they attempted to hand over 590 000 CZK to a courier as part of an organised investment‑fraud scheme. The suspects face up to eight years in prison.

In July, an 38‑year‑old man who threatened two post office clerks with a pistol during robberies in Košťálov and Kratonohy was apprehended and charged with aggravated robbery, carrying a potential sentence of up to ten years.

A 32‑year‑old man was charged with attempted murder after repeatedly stabbing a relative with a knife in a family dispute in Hustířany, Náchod district. He is held in custody and faces ten to eighteen years imprisonment.

A Slovak specialised criminal court sentenced retired citizen Július K. to a three‑year suspended term for publicly supporting the 2024 assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Police also uncovered a telephone‑scam in which a fraudster posing as a banker duped a senior woman in Jeseník out of nearly 300 000 CZK; the perpetrators face up to five years in prison.

The Czech Ministry of Justice postponed a regulation on minimum prison‑cell space, delaying its implementation to 2030, sparking criticism from prison officials.
