Czech police address online romance fraud and train harassment cases

Police in the Czech Republic reported a woman from South Bohemia who was defrauded of more than one million crowns after an online romance with a man posing as a former U.S. soldier and doctor. The perpetrator used WhatsApp messages to build trust before requesting funds for alleged military discharge expenses, ultimately disappearing without fulfilling promises.

In a separate incident, a man was fined 6,000 crowns after a court found he had touched a 15‑year‑old girl’s hair and shoulder on a regional train, deeming the act a “gross breach of civil coexistence.” The court upheld the municipal authority’s decision, describing the conduct as socially harmful and a violation of personal dignity.

Both cases highlight increased scrutiny by Czech authorities of online fraud and public‑space harassment, with law‑enforcement urging vigilance and legal consequences for such offenses.
