Czech police charge former MP and hygiene officials in abuse of power case

Czech police have charged three individuals in connection with an alleged scheme to misuse hygiene inspections to target a private business. The suspects include former ANO MP Margita Balaštíková, the former director of the Zlín hygiene station Eva Sedláčková, and the current director of the Prague hygiene station Vladimír Možíšek.

The investigation stems from a 2023 divorce dispute involving Balaštíková and her husband, Jaroslav Balaštík. Allegations suggest that Balaštíková sought to use hygiene authorities to damage her husband's company, ChemProgres. Audio recordings reportedly capture discussions regarding these plans.

Balaštíková and Možíšek face charges of abuse of official power, while Sedláčková is charged with aiding and abetting. Možíšek has maintained his innocence, stating he intends to prove he is not involved. The Ministry of Health has been informed of the proceedings and stated it will act in accordance with the law should an indictment be filed.
